BUSTED! How much did NOT HAVING a FISHING LICENSE COST ME?! Outrageous! (BUSTED by CDFW)
A year or two ago I got BUSTED by the CDFW for fishing WITHOUT A LICENSE in Malibu and this is what it cost me. When I went to court they tried to charge me 500$ for not having my license. I gave them copies of all my licenses over the years and they lowered it. STILL EXPENSIVE!

That’s is stupid California fishing law. I’m a love fishing, but I quit fishing because of this dumb license always expire at the end of December

You have the right to fish in California by law, rights do not require permission slips/ fishing licenses. No state may take a right convert it into a privilege and charge a fee therefore, they are not going to tell you this you have to stand up for your right
Once again its your tax money used against you.
All fishing licenses are a scam. Money grab. Another example of why there is little freedom standing in US.

I was fishing with my father the other day in South California, when two officers walked up to us (they had just finished checking the marine protected area for fishermen, and they saw footprints in the sand). We were fishing next to a marine protected area (which made them suspicious, but we did not fish in that area), and they asked us many questions about if we went inside the marine protected area to fish, while checking our fishing licenses spontaneously. Of course, being under 16, I did not require to own one yet, but many of their questions were very tricky and incriminating. They will attempt to let your guard down before asking you these incriminating questions about your date of birth (if you are under 16), fishing, and etc. An example of this is when they asked what school I went to, and when I told them, the officer said that he had a buddy that went there. That was most likely a lie since my school is very much out of that area, and was probably attempting to make me feel reassured before trying to trick me into answering his incriminating questions wrong. Another question was if I took the driver’s test yet, even though I JUST told him that I was under 16 (you have to be over 16 to take your driver’s test). This was not the end yet, another example of an incriminating question that was asked was if we caught anything in the marine protected area (they didn’t tell us that the area we were fishing next to was illegal to fish on, but we already knew), saying yes or no would’ve most likely drawn suspicion, so we just said that we didn’t know. There were many more examples where these cops would try to trick you with their incriminating questions so that they could give you a fine (they had their tickets prepared). We were shaken up by these questions, and that ruined the feeling for fishing, so we just decided to go home right after. All these officers want you to do is answer a question wrong so that you can get an expensive fine, which is pathetic in the state of California. It’s like they make a living off of doing this. Please watch out for these types of officers, do not answer without thinking, and stay safe. Just wanted to share my encounter for ya’ll.

Same thing happened to me. I think I'll just pay the fine tho. It's less than missing work and driving 4 hours.

Sucks. It’s usually the home owners overseeing the fishing area that call the wild life. If you don’t want the public to fish by their backyard then don’t buy a home overseeing a public body of water
Bro that IS YOUR BAD, I have renewed religiously since age 16. At least the judge was kind. I’ve always known it’s $5xx dollars, since 20+ years ago. Know the rules and no issues, it’s part of your responsibility and blaming the state for you own bad is silly. No license = poaching. Own up and fish on.

Damn I got one years ago but no fine just fix it ticket. Showed the clerk I bought a license and they wave the ticket for $25 fee that’s it in Cali too
I understand your frustration and feel for u but the law is the law. The people you dealt with are just doing their jobs. When I was a teen I got busted without a fishing license and fortunately for me the judge let me off. That day people were in court for other serious issues and he was like, you're here for what? Son, go get a damn license and don't do that again.

I pulled out my license it was expired by like a day or two lol mind you I was not even caught Fishing I was walking to my car to leave but said he seen me Fishing 30 min prior before coming up to me I said wow I got popped and yeah long story short $500 but I would definitely pay $75 or whatever it is for the year then pay that $500 man any day but they definitely don’t let people slide well not me and you but aside from all that thanks for all the informative videos I learn new things from your videos and others that are willing to help fellow Fishermen out right on and thanks brotha 🤙🏼
it used to be worse though.. they would take all the gear you had on you and also fine you.. i agree if someone pays on the spot and gets a license that day.. sure fine them but maybe 50 dolllars.. now if its a guy who never has a license and still isnt getting one yes hit him fat or a poacher type.. sadly i might be moving to connecticut in a 3-6 months.. ever fish there?.. it looks decent but i think a boat is needed it looks like a lot of overgrowth around the rivers and areas to fish.. gl out there. you been getting a lot of nice fish lately

Oh man it happened to me I didn't get a ticket but I fished with a expired license for a couple weeks thinking I had it up todate(first 2 weeks of January), And I heard her in kern County those tickets are ove $1000 bucks!
Couldn’t agree more about California. They police who they know they can get money from and that is not what we established our laws for
