The uni is also very popular as a method of joining main lines to leaders. You're basically tying a uni onto the main line with the leader and a uni on the leader with the main line. Then the two knots simply jam together when you pull out the gap between them. Not the strongest connection knot out there, but very compact and easy to tie correctly.
