The 3 best knots for Monofilament
Many subscribers have asked, what are the best knots for monofilament? I tie the ever-popular improved clinch, the palomar and the loop -uni. I test all three and rate each knot which knot do you think is the strongest?

👍great video.
Can't go wrong with Roland Martin. Always great fishing advice.
Excellent video! Great teacher!
The great Roland Martin ! I met Roland back in the 70's when Bass fishing just started in California . Always a gentleman. Frank Hauck and Dee Thomas were the hosts.
Roland,I've been watching you since I was a young boy. You're a legendary outdoorsman
thank you for that valuable information.
Volume almost zero in this video.
Mr. Martin do you ever Do any bottom fishing for freshwater catfish or anything like that
I use this fishing line on the Kenai River Reds and enjoyable.fishing recommend it works great. I use braided line most of the time but needed a Mono for Reds. Holds up good and blends in with the river. Great price for a lot of line.
Agree Palomar is the easiest to tie i can do it in the dark, use it almost always, thanks Roland
Do you have a recommendation for tying 20lb mono backer on a trolling reel to 10lb mono
Martin you are a star because you are like the grandad every little grandson deserves. I believe you must be a real true christian, Just the same way Peter was a fisherman, I sure do hope so.
thank you so much for sharing your knowledge
Still the Man, impressive. Go Roland!
Thanks
Awesome stuff!!!
In my opinion, it's good to know a way to make a few types of fishing line knot. That is beneficial skill. For example, a fisher need not any items because he is able using a line. Independent and frugal. Greetings.
I don't think you have enough rods in the background 🤣🤣 Love it!!!🎣
Enjoyed, good stuff.
Just curious, do you think a uni knot is superior to an improved clinch knot?
I dont know man tie one end uni and one end Palomar and I find the Palomar breaks upon testing, could be that I fail to cinch the Palomar properly though.
I’m 42 yo and have been watching you since I can remember, and still learning from you! God speed Mr. Martin 😎👍🏾🙌🏾🎣
Thank you for yours the videos , i have a question ,what knot you recomends for mono to mono diferent size like 12lb to 30lb or 0.30mm to 0.60mm we use for surf casting in south america uruguay argentina Thank you sir
You got enough fishing poles. 🤪
Seeing this sure brings back memories of watching your fishing show.
Are theese good for mono as well ?
Great video thank you, are all those rods behind you, your personal rods? If yes how many do you own,I am an angler too,am I going to need that many rods?😄
Even though you and I are about the same age, you have not kept up with the times. Much better and stronger knots have come around in the last 20 years or so that far out shine any of the knots you are using here. If you look at all modern knots that are strong, they all have one thing in common. Double lines through the hook eye. Knots like the Rivers Inlet, Miller, and Berkley braid knots have all been proven to be stronger. I'm a bit of a knot tying expert as I knot that I invented about 30 some years ago called the "Fish-N-Fool knot" leads that list and has been proven to be the strongest line to lure knot ever created in both mono and braid. It won the Knot Wars segment of the North American fishing TV show that was on about 10 years ago and was crowned as the world's strongest knot. It has held up in a number of other tests as well, beating all challengers. There are a ton of videos and instructions on the internet showing how to tie my knot, but they all do it wrong. The key to tying a good Fish-N-Fool knot is holding it properly by holding the loop with your 2 middle fingers and wrapping the tag end with your thumbs and index fingers, and not letting the lines cross on the hook eye. I use my ring finger to hold this loop around the hook eye as I tie it so that they don't get crossed, then I pinch that on the hook as I tighten up the knot, so it lays flat. Tied this way, you can tie it in about the same amount of time as the Palomar and end up with a knot that is about 30% stronger
I love watching Rolands videos. Very smart in the bass fishing world. Also he is not trying to sell you things that you dont need. He keeps it simple. GOOD MAN
Thank you for your knowledge.
I know this is an old video, and thanks for the great instructions. I was wondering do you ever have a give-away? You seem to have an overabundance of equipment and who wouldn't want to fish with Roland Martin rods, reels, baits?
Great info!
Saints Preserve us will someone put a sharp on that mans knife.
Thank you. This was very informative to me a novice. I needed just a few good knots to master and these 3 are just what I needed. Keep up the good work. If I may suggest: save your teeth and use a good set of hemostat clamps to grab hold of the tag. I would be happy to send you a few pair if you give me your mailing address. Thanks, again.
Crazy good knots ! That Loop Knot will be my go to for streamers for sure and the Paloma Knot for everything else. Thanks for sharing.
Hi there quick question what would be your go-to knot to tie braid to braid
Nicest guy in the world and a true expert. thank you!
Very informative
My kinda garage love the rod collection, but I'd lock the guns away outta reach of youngsters
Roland is the man!
Thanks Roland great video . I used to trade at your Marina on Okechobe back in the day, now at 83 years old I just watch fishing films God bless
Actually the clinch is a great knot you just need to run the tag end through the eye twice similar to a Trilene knot. The Palomar beats the clinch because the line is doubled through the eye. Roland even said while tying it that you can run it through twice and that is the key. 👍
How does the Non-Slip Loop Knot/Kreh Loop compare in strength with the Loop-UniKnot your describe in your video?
lost a 15 dollar lure on a decent gar, now my line will break faster than my knots. call me stupid for spending that much on a lure, but for the record it was a very pretty color. thanks old-timer.
How did you lose the excess weight from your body (you're looking "fit" now)???????????????????
