As some of you may know I love slow pitch jigging. In this video I head out deep sea fishing for mutton snappers with two guys that are as hooked on Slow Jigging as I am. We talk a about a great new descending device and laws that go with it. I managed a few nice snapper and chat about a glue Russ dicovered to finish off a PR or FG knot.

Congrats on the new place guys. Need to come down and check it out and get my weekly class with professor Johnny.
I honestly believe the fish that you bring up from those depths don’t make it. They may survive for a little while, I think they die in a day or so. Ive never caught a fish that has been previously vented. Just my opinion, dont know for a fact. I wish we could see more studies on that.
That glue is awesome. I need a beginner jigging outfit for a trip to the Tortugas for early May. What can you recommend?

us west coasters are recommended to use a desender when we bottom fish as well. oceaned.org will send you a free one if you request it.

Just love starting my week with a new JJ's vid! The state of Oregon now requires a descending device to be carried onboard when going after rockfish, as well. They also discourage the venting of fish. The concern seems to be infection, even when done correctly. We took an old glass boat rod and a crap reel, shortened the rod to 24" overall and leave it set up with the descender. Works great and it's short enough to not be in the way when fishing. I'll see if I can get a picture posted in the next few days on the Johnny Jigs FB discussion board. We are headed out Wednesday, wish us luck!
