I jump between power and action often during this video, I am assuming the people watching this fish a lot and will understand the concept behind the video
This is confusing to me. Heavy or medium heavy refers to the backbone of the rod, not the taper. A medium heavy rod can have a moderate action or taper. Isn’t that correct?
Cant you use the drag as a shock absorber also? I thought that was a way of fine tuning a rod/line combo.
I have such a hard time finding heavy power and moderate action rods
Let's cut the bs lol ultimately yes comes down to rod. Then line, then reel. But like you each person has a preference of which baits they use on which rods and what ever line they want to use for line for their fishing style. Me I use braid on baitcasting rods 30lb on my medium heavy and 50lb on heavy. Then 10lb on my spinning rod medium action. All will either be straight or to a mono leader just for the shock absorption. I used mono my whole life and braid and doing it this way. Bass do not care if your using this set up. I've used straight braid in clearer water too and yes does it make a small difference yes but not enough to warrant to straight one line or another. And the best flipper/pitching guy is greg hackney hands down.
Very helpful, thanks!
Give Hendrix a $100 squire or a 6,000 dollar custom fender. He would still play as good and with as much soul on either . The audio to the ear would be just as good.
My point , it’s the artist not the art.
This applies to anything period. Sure it may be nice to have a rod for every lure . But it’s a hobby and trend .
Papaw would throw a zebco and catch em all.
3 Setups is great, a Heavy for Topwater/Frog etc, a Medium Heavy all other and a nice Spinning setup. That’s about all I can afford Lol and of course Braided Line on all..
Hey dude.
Although I'm not a newbie in fishing but I'm used to using 11ft I'm looking for a smaller rod and reel what's the best thing you could please help with looking to travel light
Cheers
I have a 7 foot baitcaster rod by uglystick equipped with a spinner reel and 15lb braid. Dont even know or care what weight or action it is. It catches everything ND waters has to offer..
Excellent review, thank you for the understanding, always something to learn.
Fish what you got. Fishing has become about who has more money than it is enjoying nature.
How do I tell if I’m getting a new rod for something I just started trying I want to get a stick for heavy hydrillas and wood
What is the point of having a parabolic rod and improving your chances of landing the fish if you can’t get the fish out of the cover in the first place? You need a stiff rod in the thick stuff that’s all there is to it!!!
Great video Tyler. Thanks for being such a great teacher!
Great job reviewing this!
I’ve been using a Shakespeare ms 46 1 uld 4’6” ultra light 2-6lb with seaguar 6lb fluorocarbon and a Walmart spinning ultra light abu Garcia and I been pulling some nice 16” 3.5-4 pounders surprisingly fast. I just keep my rod up high and let that sucker arch. Let it take drag when it wants. It’s so much fun, I forgot how much of an adrenaline rush fishing is.
Very understandable…great job!
This is way complicated and no need to have so many different rods same goes with types of lines. All you need a Medium or Medium Light spinning rod for finesse and Medium Heavy casting for the majority of bass fishing and maybe a heavy rod where if there is a lot of heavy cover or super big baits.
Have 2 rods….bait catcher and shark catcher…
I’m pretty new to fishing so trying to learn, my brother bought me an Okuma Serrano 731M extra fast rod, from looking it up I see it’s technique specific but since this is my only rod what line would you recommend ? It’s gonna have to be my do-it-all rod until I learn more and buy more lol
Moderate for power fishing(trebles). Fast or mod fast for finesse. Using braid only. My drag is what I play with for what this vid is about
