Bowfishing Bigmouth Buffalo (Carp)
My brother and I went out during the bigmouth buffalo (carp) run to try some bowfishing. The weather wasnt the best but we made the the right adjustments and shot a bunch of fish!!!

I want some of that action
FINAL COMMENT – Fish in a barrel is NOT a sport.
Absolutely irresponsible wasteful fishing of an ecologically important species. These fish are very long-lived and simply cannot handle that kind of fishing pressure. Please stop using these amazing fish to target practice!
Bigmouth Buffalo are not carp, they are suckers, and they are indigenous to the USA and not invasive. Some of those fish you killed are over 100 years old especially the largest specimens, which means you have no respect for something older than you. If everyone went out and killed Bigmouth Buffalo like that you would decimate the fish population. You certainly are destroying the trophy fish population and it will take at least 50 years to replace those bigger fish. The Game and Fish Department really need to put limits on how many fish people can kill per day. And I wonder how many you wounded that will not be eaten and suffered and died that got away. You people are just a bunch of psychopath killers that have no respect for nature. Learn how to catch the fish on rod and reel and only keep what you plan to eat. Stop wasting good eating fish by turning them into fertilizer because you have a killing addiction and do not know when to stop. This is like taking a machine gun to a heard of Deer, it is sickening.
You're helping the rivers!!! Don't worry bout the Karen's lol y'all follow me on Instagram @kentuckyrivelimits 🤟🤟🤟
NOT CARP they are a native species that needs protection, educate yourselves
That looks like a lot of fun
Reading the comments.. So, you use these for Coyote bait and/or fertilizer? Not sure if I would agree that this is an appropriate use for them… why not let them grow and just shoot at some targets. I’m surprised that you think this is helpful for the environment(opening up space for spawning, etc)
I’m glad that you had your fun, but I’d be much happier to see someone in the bow fishing community that studied environmental science do something productive/educational for others instead of promoting the slaughter of an extremely underrated species of fish in our state(assuming you’re in Preston, MN)
Respectfully,
What do you do with them after you take them out? I use commons as bait, never actually found a buffalo where I bowfish.
Great white meat feast! What do you think McDonald's fillet is up north? BF they'll never let you know that though.
I know this is an old video but I’d quite literally be like a kid in a candy shop if I rolled up on a spot like that
Awesome job! They are also good eating smoke as well. I can’t wait to go bowfishing!
Certainly not against bow fishing, especially for carp. I just have a soft spot for buffalo, given they are one of our longest-living native fish. Some of the bigger ones you have there are likely 80-90 years old.
Not trying to shame anyone and I realize you guys aren’t exceeding the limits that are set, but just something to consider next time you’re out shooting.
And by all means, take out those common carp…. they screw up all kinds of stuff in the local waterways.
Awesome job guys!
Good job hauling your kill off with you! Wish everyone did that.
Bigmouth buffalos look like carp but are not closely related.Buffalos are more related to white suckers while Carps are more related to tiger barbs with their distinct barbels found on cyprinadaes near their mouths Buffalos convergently evolved the same body plan as carp to do similar activities such as grazing and retreating from predators.
Why shoot the buffalo if they’re a native fish.
what state? this a public area or private? Awesome day for sure!
Buffalo are NOT carp; they are in the family "Catostomidae", the largest members of the sucker family. Common carp are in "Cyprinidae", the minnow family.
Buffalo are native to North America. Carp are native to Europe and Asia, and are heavily invasive species in North America and Australia.
The buffalo aren't carp but glad you use them as cut bait, be a shame to see nice fish wasted
Fish in a barrel! Nice work boys, manage those carp!
Ever try eating them? I’ve heard buffalo are quite good smoked but I’ve never caught one
Makes me wanna go!! It’s been years!
What do you do with all the fish?
That's a load of fish! WOW
