REARENDED IN COLORADO SPRINGS – Uninsured – Unregistered – Expired Plates #HondaFit4Adventure
On my return trip home from California I stopped in Colorado Springs to see Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods. While leaving Colorado Springs I was waiting at a light to turn left when my car was hit from behind.
No one was injured and the cars were drive able so we pulled into the nearest parking lot. I quickly learned that her tags were expired, she did not have insurance or registration on the vehicle. To my surprise she was just given a ticket and was able to drive away in the same vehicle she could not prove she owned or legally drive.
So my car just gets damaged and I’m stuck with the bill?
She gets to drive off and cause more accidents after already causing one?
The bumper is mildly scratched but did get punctured.
The rear bumper support (underneath the bumper) is bent in.
Trunk is recessed with her license plate pressed into the back.
The Roof rack slid 6″ back denting and scratching both roof rails.
The car is scheduled to go into the body shop soon but that required me to remove almost everything off the vehicle. Roofrack – Solar – C.B. Antenna Etc.
Removing everything off the car has been frustrating for sure. I remain optimistic in that I was planning on redoing my Solar and storage setup anyway.
I’m hoping to get back to the car camping videos by Semptember.

I have Insurance but an expired plate here in CO springs, cops don't care here man. BUT I always keep insurance because I don't want to mess up someone else's day.
This state has it's drawbacks but to be honest expired plated and not getting harassed by cops is kind of nice. Especially considering things are tight for people like me right now. My insurance is 450 a month for two cars out here.
There's a cop who has completely given up. Not blaming him. This is happening all over.

There was one time I was thankful that I backed into someone who was probably in her situation. He didn't want to exchange info and immediately drove away
I remember I got arrested for no license and insurance and registration. And I didn't even hit anybody. Cop pull me over claiming that my headlights weren't on at 1am and I just got off work.
Hope she doesn't come for a road trip to Massachusetts!! She won't be leaving soon. Colorado is more "live free or die" than New Hampshire. What I wonder is how that would be handled if there were children in the car… WITH drugs too. Anyway, with that attitude – she's not heading anywhere great – she's her own worst enemy.

I feel like in any part of the world, having all of those expired, driving around like this would get you arrested. I cant belive the cop just let her go with a slap on the wrist with a ticket? That's rough, the same thing happened to me a couple years ago. Check to see if your state has mandatory uninsured/underinsured driver's coverage. It can include any damage to your vehicle as well as medical bills and pain/suffering damages. If so, you can file a claim with your own insurance and they will go after her. If your insurance denies the claim (which they did with me) you can hire a lawyer. In my case, the lawyers took a third of the payout. The person who hit me now has a judgement against them, so if they ever come into some money, the insurance company and I will get paid.
So aggravating. Glad you didn't put on a show and get a ticket yourself. Evidently it would take murdering her in front of the policeman to get arrested.
