The interest rate hikes are exactly what the economy needs desperately! The only people complaining are those who made a KILLING in the overinflated high market the past couple years. Never ever give any money online or transfer money online. First to prevent getting scammed out of an apartment a person should be able to go to a location,
see the person such as a broker or real estate agent in person. The view the apartment in person FIRST. then before any money is exchanged make sure there is a lease.
Make sure the person you are dealing with handles the paper (meaning they are touching it). So there are finger prints on the documents in case they try to scam you.
DO NOT sign a lease over the internet EVER. always do it in person, make sure you have the persons name and location and business card before you sign.
Go as far to ask for ID from them, so you can see their name. And when asked why, just say its for your protection. If they deny showing you their ID to identify themselves,
then you know it may be a scam and immediately walk away. — Any real person doing real transaction, they will show you their ID, to show you they are not trying to scam you.
And if you can, be sneaky and snap a picture of the person you are dealing with for the apartment when you meet them in person.
Make believe you are taking photos of the apartment or video taping the apartment, and grab a quick sneak snap of the person you are dealing with.
So if they scam you, YOU have a photo to give to the FBI and police. NEVER give more than 1 month deposit on rent.
Also always google the address the person is trying to rent to you and take a trip down on your own to see if it actually exist.
Many scammers have placed fake addresses that turned out to be empty parking lots. and yet you gave that person $6 grand.
Be smart and be extremely vigilant these days, because people these days will do just about anything to rip people off, specially in these times of pandemic.
