Hi Steve. I've been using jigs down here about 1.5 hrs south east of falcon dam. And all the bass around here. Are picky eaters. With jigs and most lures. The hold it in their mouth. And won't eat and swim away. I can leave to them for a good while and they'll still have it in their mouths. I think they figured it out. Even with live bait. They do the same thing. I've done stingers and they feel the hook cause they grab it when the lure is still. When you tug is when you feel them and you pull and they've already let go. You'd have to drag and pull to set hook everytime you cast. Spinner baits they half strike I drop it and they hold it in their mouths. Gar swim away with the lures. But the bass around here have adopted biting like gar. 7 months straight everyday majority 2 times a day. I have 7 largies under my belt. I've put it in craigslist for anybody knows how to fish a jig. And they'll know where the fishing spot is. But a secret for a secret. But I have more places and all them have big bass. I'm thinking of using an offset stinger hook so when they grab the claws. I'll have a better opportunity to cling off something. I've been using trebles and finesse weedless hooks.
Great content Steve. I appreciate how you keep things simple. I've been saving a bunch of your videos so I can refer to them later, or in the moment.
Hey Steve how are ya. Just a quick thank you from not only myself but all the viewers on your channel. You are a great instructor and very knowledgeable about angling. I appreciate you sharing things. Always makes me think about it even if I already know what your talking about. Gives me that other perspective and that's another ace in my pocket when I go out no matter if it's fun fishing or if I'm trying to make the cut.
Soft jerkbait on 12# and 40# braid, flat side crankbait 3' to 5' and 3/8oz. swim jig in bluegill and shad colors are with me all the time….throw in a shaky head and I'm good
You always have me taking notes.
Great tips!!! I like using the squarebill crankbaits. Had much success with them but I know the others work as well!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
Whenever I fish my jerkbait, I always get my line tangled around the hooks. Not sure why. Have you ever experienced this?
Also, this video is very informative and you do a really good job presenting information.
Thank you Steve.
This dude doesn't fish very many lakes.if he did he would know NOT ALL lakes have grass in them 😂😂
Great stuff as usual Steve, thank you!
I am bank fishing the South Holston River point in Tennessee were it meets the North Holston river. The smallmouth shut down for some reason for about a week now ? I do not think the water temperature went up cause the outdoor weather remains around 85F. Some guy fished side by side with me in the North Holston the other day with a small square bill and only I caught a dink with the 5" wacky worm. I have to admit these rivers are very warm in the summer for smallmouth, but why all of a suddin did they shut down ? I think they did not really want to eat all summer but they have to, they just took a break and they will all start up again when they get hungry again, I imagine about 80% of them all stick together like a light switch, Hungry/Not hungry. I think what flipped the switch off was the rivers got a lot of rain about a week ago and the water turned chocolate milk for a couple days. I am sure you are right Steve, when this water starts to cool down they will want to chase more.
There's really a lot of great info here to unpack. Using the wind is such a great way to locate those prey species and the bass that feed on them and making sure to have the right presentation when those fish are starting to transition is so key!
Thank you sir. I was wondering you said the baitfish might be small. What finesse baits would you recommend for that?
Great info, bud
Well done steve excellent as always
Hey, Steve, pray you are well and it is great to see you
