This story comes from my father about 15 years ago, it's almost too much to believe nut I saw the wounds so I know it to be truth so here we go.

My dad has worked for the Corp of Engineers now for over 30 years based at Lookout Point Dam. One of his jobs is to supervise the hauling of fish from the traps at Fall Creek Dam, for those of you who have never witnessed this process it goes like this. Fish come up fish ladder to collection pen, steel grating on rails pushes fish into small holding box fitted on an elevator system. When fish are in holding box clove oil is introduced to the water causing fish to become limp. Hauler loads fish one by one into a truck to be taken either up to the head of the resivoir or to the Dexter hatchery. The hauler was a guy that my dad new well and fished with often. On a overcast day it happened.

Befor I continue the story I need to explain what clove oil does to fish. They go completely limp, when they are realesed into fresh water they snap out of it and are totaly fine. Berof they go limp though there is a 3-5 second of panic, the fish go crazy.

Now on a overcast day during a routine haul my dads buddy jumped into the tank like he alway's does to get ready to start loading fish. He bends down to grab his first fish when WHAM out of the water jumps a 35lb buck which them precedes to BITE DOWN ON HIS NOSE and HANGS there flapping its tail around while having a VERY firm hold on his shnoz. The fish finally lets go after three or so seconds and blood starts gushing out of multipul holes in his nose. Being the guy that he is he then looks up at my dad and says "well, looks like the bit is on. Guess I'm using the right color."
Like I said, I wouldn't have beleived it had I not seen the gapeing wounds from the fishes teeth.
Attacking chinook.

P.S. I am a terrible story teller

You're fine! Totally got the picture in my mind of that poor s.o.b with a 35lber hanging from his beak! That is the whole point of a story...painting a picture for your reader(s).

Plus, ur a Duck Fan, so any story is a good one!:D

That is a great story. Reminds me of the movie Jaws when they were sitting around the table out on the boat and they were drunk telling the stories of how they got their scars...Imagine sitting around at a table during a long night of drinking and telling others how a 35lb Salmon jumped out of the water, locked his JAWS around your big beak and ripped it to shreads! Ha! That would be awesome!
