View Full Version : Deschutes Fly Fishing Trip
First off, non-fly fishers are welcome also. Secondly, um....I guess we should all wait till Ryan starts catching 3-4 Steelhead a day again then go. :D (Or at least look at his posts from last year and base the dates off that.)
If this thread develops into a summer trip and a fall trip right on, only I won't be able to attend the summer trip.

Sept., Oct. and Nov. are the time frame you are looking for Gabe. My favorite time for the lower river are mid Sept-Mid Oct.

Ditto, I'd way rather go anywhere from late september through november, way less pressure and there are plenty of fish still around, my last trip there was december 1st and I hooked 4 bright fish that day. Bring mountain bikes also, that's key, or else you won't be able to cover as much ground and you'll lower your chances significantly. I'm looking forward to this one, we also have to get Brian (giggsy) to meet up with us if he's able since we'll be in his neck of the woods.

Sounds fine to me. I think the pink worm "fly" is a bit too heavy to be chucking around even with a 8wt. I'm looking at alternative methods of making it lighter.

The summer runs in the D will rise early and late to smaller flies either just below the surface or even skating on top. Once the sun is on the water alot of people use Intruders or larger wieghted flies to get down in the water column to where the fish will be kicking back. So the pink worm "fly"will not be needed. I do have some heavy lead-eyed pink leeches that will do the trick. I would definately be up for hooking up with you guys depending on the time. I should be heading down to cali for the winter. A lot of local guides just put the hurt on steelhead well into Dec this past year and it is looking towards another banner year. I am going to try an hit up the mouth around beginning of Aug and throw everything at them for a few days. Good luck and tight lines.
