So, I went and got my kitchen pass and took off to Horning's Hideout. Needless to say with snow falling the fish weren't feeling the popper fly but they were excited about beadhead flashback nymphs :D

The first fish I hooked into rocketed out of the water and really put his weight behind himself. It was really really fun to battle this fish.

I'm bummed the picture didn't come out better. 18" 2 3/4lbs of joy.

I followed that guy up with two other beautiful fish that were also jumpers and spazzers and it was a great morning.

Needless to say, taking these three home cost the same as 4 hours of C&R. (which I found out you can take your tube there too if your fly fishing)

So next time it's all about 2 hours of C&R :D

Must be horrible having a sweet lake full of nice trout all to yourself. It is SOOO worth a bit of pay check to get a great trout fix this time of year.. Thanks for sharing (*_*) 1 pic is missing.

I fixed the picture, it was coming out in the wrong rotation. :D

It was awesome and it went by WAY too quickly. I mess around with a popper fly and then went to put on a streamer....but all my streamers are HEAVY (read 8wt needed to toss) so I just stuck with the nymphs. :D

Yeah that must have just been a horrible day for you, Gabe. Sheesh! ;)

I'm pretty sure I had a better day on Thursday getting skunked on the Alsea when I know my friend was catching fish likely just a few holes below me that I didn't know existed. :D

Sweet pics, thanks for sharing with us.

Way bitter!
That's a fat dapper there, Gabe! Sounds like a good day for sure!

Thanks guys, I love fish on the fly, even a small fish will feel large when you've got the whole rod to stop with your wrist instead of having two hands on it.

hmmmmm,

I had a hunch they were gettin' on up in size. That one is a fatty.

'bout time to get out to my 'private' trout lake. To all those that think it's too easy; find a fly that they don't want (usually some kind of dry fly) and see how many you can get on it. That makes it a little more interesting. There are the occasional dandies in there, as well.

Gabe, are you single haul roll casting your streamers? That should get them way out there, even if too heavy.

Ed

Horning's Hideout: it's only embarrassing if someone sees you!!

Yeah. I can throw a 16/oz rabbit fur jig on a G1000 5wt I have. Even wet the rod still loads it and flings with a double haul overhand cast.
The trout are fun. The local ponds are a callin. That's what ill do til the rivers drop back into shape...

that's what I've been doing too at the little puddles by my place.

one spot has two ponds right next to eachother and with the water high the creek between the two draws fish to the "mouth" of it from all over the bigger pond, and I swing nymphs and scuds in the current! it's not a bad way to burn a few hours thats for sure

Wow, didn't see the updates: Ed, I was doing that with the roll casts but the Wulff TT line is just too damn thin at the tip to turn anything if you don't have the good smooth energy behind it.

Horning's: If someone see's you there, no worries, they're there too. ;)

Ian...16oz jig huh! You going for Hali's with that :p
