I spent some time talking with Rob Brown, whom is also attending the float, and we spoke with Jack Glass as well anda fewothers. It looks like our best float is going to be Dabney to lewis and clark and will avoid the long float in the cold windy conditions.

Can we carry DB's 25 feet?

We are pretty sure that we have enough people in total, so could say 6 or 8 of us carry a DB, if we took the heavy gear out? So we can launch at Dabney? Is that possible? Anyone done this with a fewguys before?

The water is droping fast and we think fish may hold a bit lower. Right now the air andthe water in the sandy is icey cold andthe bites arevery soft at best. Lets hope for warmer temps by then.

I'm open for whatever everybody decides to do, Just say where and when, Theres always the clack to the gorge wind doesn't effect it as much. I've heard the the temp this weekend might get up to the 50s maybe.

Im good with anything. Front seaters dont get a vote anyway, do they?:)

I have dragged my db over the soft sand by myself before, so we shouldnt have too much trouble with all of us there.

Let's stay with the original! Or, decide that morning? Heck, they'll both be windy. i don't know. Ask me later.

I will go with the majority, I know it was cold out there today and a float from Oxbow to L & C would be long and hard. Personally, I am not interested in going to L & C from Oxbow. We could drag or carry the DB's across the sand, it shouldn't be too bad.

I floated Dabney to LC yesterday. There was a diesel truck stuck 25 feet off the ramp. Between me and my son and 2 of the guys waiting to be pulled out, we drug my Clack the 75 or so feet to the water, so it can be done easily with several guys.

The water had about 5 feet of visability and was VERY cold. I pulled plugs and pitched bobbers. The wind wasn't horrible the first hour, but got tough to row in around half way through the float. By then my kids had had enough. I ended up rowing out at about the power line hole.

No joy for us. I saw Brandon Glass and 2 othe sleds out, didn't hear of anything taken. They were covering the whole river. Warmer air temps might bring on the bite, but the water will still be cold when the freezing level goes up by the end of the week with snow melt.

I guess what I am saying is I'm game. :D I'll go with the majority.

I am down for the float that seems the best. Be it Oxbow to DB or DB to LC it will just be good to be on the river. Look fwd to experiencing this section of the Sandy. Fished the Clack for a while yesterday and lost one. Might be going out Wed up towards Eagle Creek but have heard it is low and clear as are most of the rivers now. Still like I said it is good just to be out on the water getting the line wet. Talk to you all later,

I'am ok with Dabney, how bad is the launch? My boat is pretty heavy and it is a square back so sliding across sand will be tough. Let's hope for calm winds!

We hit Dabney to L.C. today, and the Dabney launch looked like a frozen sand box, as usual in the snow. Except the snow actually made for better launching/traction conditions. You should be fine if it doesn't rain too much before your float...Haha, yeah right! 4wd is a must right now if you can't line it/drag it to your trailer. Wind was very cooperative. Easily side driftable. Slam those fish though. As most of you know, they are a bit on the soft bite side of the spectrum. Not un-detectable, but I got bait jacked a few times, and seriously thought it was debris until I swung at 'em. Good luck guys! Wish I could make it with ya, but "other" things come up...If not though, I may see your 'tilla on the lower river if I can get done early...

I take it that is what caused those big *ss ruts in the sand at the hump just below the ramp? When we got to the ramp we saw that and immediately figured someone got stuck. I always use a rope now when there is several feet of sand between the ramp and the water, I am not going to get stuck out there ever again.....

So, would it be possible for a buddy and I to get front seats in someone's drift boat? He's not much for the computer (and thus not a member here) but he's back into fishing in a big way these days and a heck of a good fishing buddy. You can be assured that the rower will be well fed and likely to get some homebrew as well.

That's the spot ROTR! Gravity got them to the water to launch, but diesel power couldn't make it over the hump. That truck was buried to the doors.

I wasn't quite to the doors but it was dam close. I hate getting stuck, it's embarrassing... I had a few guys tell me they made it out of there no problem so I thought I would give it a try....Shoulda known better than that, my truck is heavy and I don't have a winch yet....

You would all do well to talk with and confirm your seats with a rider asap, so no one gets left behind.

Please list your open seats, or if your full yet. Thenk if you need a ride, please contacts the open seat directly.

We are going to float from Oxbow to dabney, and we are going to rope the boats OUT at dabney...I have spoken with Dave [Rollin} and Ed Fast, both are bringing rope and feel this will be no trouble with all the arms we have. Everyone should bring rope since we have a few boats.

We just dont want to run the whole river, its to much float for what we are doing. We are also going to avoid the jet boats this way. Again for what we are doing we will be better with out the 6 working jet boats.

SO to finalize the drift we will do Oxbow to DB and rope out at Dabney..

Please try to contact and secure your seats. We will have less riders to last minute on the river bank that way and everyone who wants to go should be all set.

I am riding with Ed fast, we are saving the second seat for last minute emergency, but dont count on it. It is an ER only seat....We are trying our best to plan ahead so no one is left standing on the bank no matter what.

We should try to meet at the first big parking lot on the right side, just before you get to the boat ramp area. We can group up there and take the boats down as they are ready.

I am desperatly hoping to get some Nikon D80 shots of the boats and people mingling & lined along the beach just before we set out if at all possible. Would be a great morning shot to remember our first annuall Sandy float.

Thanks everyone!

IM going to meet Ed at the shop at 8:00 am to drop my car. I think we only need so many at Dab for shuttles right?

DO not leave anything valuable in your car at Dabny park.
Also we think 8:00 am is good considering Oxbow will close by dark. I think we will need to keep a solid pace, so we can just at least get all the trailors out of Oxbow by closing.

We will need to check the closing time for certain.
