Okay,
the informal gathering that will include fishing, grilling, hanging out, etc. will be this Sunday on Sauvie Island! The meeting time will be anytime in the morning, but the main event is for lunch at about 1 o'clock. I figure many people get out of church at 12 and if they planned ahead and got everything ready ahead of time, they can be at the meeting area about then! That will give us the rest of the warm, sunny afternoon for our festivities.
Kids and all family members are invited and encouraged to attend. I know of 3 kids ranging from 4 to 9 years old, already scheduled to attend.
We will fish for carp and channel cats and sturgeon (!) Fishing should be pretty good!
I'm really looking forward to hanging out with alot of you. It will be fun, as usual.
We will park at a spot that is a short walk to the fishing area. It is next to a large field where kids and family can hang out and play, right next to the fishing area.
I will bring a cooler, some chairs and a kettle grill and maybe others can can bring one too.
Bring some chairs and a couple of medium sized to heavier setups. We will be plunking and bobber fishing. (I will be 'bobber plunking'!) Don't forget to buy the tag for fishing with more than one rod, if you plan to do so.
You need a parking pass and you can buy it at the store as soon as you get on the island. They are cheap. You can also buy your worms and can of corn there.
For bait, you want worms, raw shrimp (prawns) or sand shrimp. There are other catfish baits, such as hatchery trout, smelt, shad, etc. Ryan, err, I'm sorry, Natalia, caught that big one on prawn meat. For carp, you can use worms, corn or dough baits. (There are plenty of recipes on line.)
You will need size 2 or 4 hooks for the small rigs and bigger for your large baits. The cats and sturgeon can get VERY big!! I will be using 10# test or larger, since there are some grassy and weedy areas you might have to pull fish through or might get hung in.
We will see who can get the biggest and smallest for each of the 3 species. We will also see if someone can catch all 3. Who knows? Maybe we'll catch something else!

p.m. me and I will give you directions. I will also put up some little signs to lead the way at a couple of the tricky forks in the road.
You may also bring a small boat, canoe or pontoon. I'm bringing a canoe. Dogs are okay, but I think they have to be on a leash.
