Feeling the winter chill in the air I know that we are within weeks now of the first winter steelhead runs. Not to skip past the fall run before it has really started for the rivers on the coast but for my area we dont get them anyways.

Looking back to last February and a few hours I spent with Brandon and Rob one day, I offer this clip to get you excited about the coming lower river fishing that can often start around Thanksgiving.

In this clip we capture a sidedrift take on a cold peaceful morning that in my world of video I consider pinnacle. This was released about 6 months ago but clips like this I refuse to archive. Try watching in full screen mode, qaulity is low but its cool in full size...

All the video's produced of guys fishing, posting on Utube what'have-ya... The hardest thing to capture is the actual take. I think that is one of the best examples of a side drift take that I have seen. Nice job Matt... Also, Very good discussion and education on the retention of the Nate for the Brood Stock Program, for those that don't know what you guys are doing with that fish...:)

As our rivers are building anchor ice, our season is coming to an end. While the trout fishing on the upper Kenai is still going strong, the best we can do now is to wait for freeze up and get out the augers.

Great video, but kind of depressing in that I have to way about 7 months to get the rods out again....

Good luck on your winter steelhead season

Indeed... I get to read, drool, dream and scheme about fishing in May.... Or wait for the ice to get thick enough to drag a few through that 8" hole... the Sage just doesn't cast the same on hard water however...:p

Never tried the ice fishing thing, after seeing grumpy old men and what shanty anglers do to each other.........IDK!

If I had to slap myself for anything in this video clip, it would have to be the tri pob on the bow of the boat, man that annoys me....lol........producers are their own worst critic..........
