Hello,

I am taking a few days off and plan on going to the beach to try some bobber fishing at like Barview or around there. Would you take jigs or try some bait like sand shrimp?

I also got to go reread the regs for the area to see what I can catch? Is anything off limits that I should know about.

Thanks for any help

The bait of choice if herring or anchovy. Rigging them is a bit of a trick. If possible get a guy at a tackle shop to rig one for you if he is willing so you can watch. I employ the use of a bait threader in rigging my herring. Something shown to me recently by Kodiak. I really need to do something about this!

I have been planning on using a 4oz setup on my XS 10 MHC bobber/surf rod. I would go 25 on the mainline and 15 for leader if coho and 25 if chinook.

Look for bait balls to fish around. It also seems to matter what size they are eating so if they are eating anchovys dont throw green label herring at them and expect a bite.

That could be good this year with numbers predicted. Also check that Nehalem jetty thread for more info on this subject. Hopefully we will have more info as it gets better. If nothing else after the season we should have some ideas and tails to share.
