Recently we spent a few days camping at Timothy Lake to do a little trout fishing and look for some great images with a high cascade feel.

I suppose your wondering about the fishing? Well fishing was great! Holdover rainbow and cutthroat trout were on tap for those willing to work for them and possibly change to more secretive tactics.

I have spent really a great many years camping and fishing at Timothy Lake and I can honestly say that many of my best days have come on far from conventional trout fishing methods.

Lures work good here and fish often relate to structure like bass, often not moving more than 10 feet in a days time. One of my favorite tactics is to locate fish in the morning when the water is calm and clear but leave them alone and not fish them. I then return later in the afternoon when the wind kicks up to work them with various minnow imitations. Not so much in recent years but over time this method has produced a few rather large fish. This trips largest was a chunky 16" holdover rainbow.

On my search for images I came across this little scene along the shore of the lake near Oak Fork. It was getting late in the evening and the hills behind me were already in full alpenglow so I ran a time exposure to add a touch of this special light to my scene and this was the result. Alpenglow is like magic dust, always producing just the right feel.

Great pics as always Matt. I just got back from there today, only managed 2 in three days but one was a fat 15" holdover. any thoughts on the parasites and worms on those fish? I noticed yours didnt seem to have any but mine sure did!

Jack several of fish I caught had the worms. Crayfish here also have the same worm in the summer. I think I may even have a photo.

Is this what you are refering to?

yep, right behind the fins. some had a smattering around the body as well though. its a shame, those fish otherwise have brilliant coloring even the stockers.

Wow... just wow. Thanks for the awesome pics Matt! Nice to see you got out and did some camping. I've only fished at Timothy for the day, never camped... looks like a great place to do it. :-)
