I have a question about Matt's technique in some of the videos. I enjoyed the video when he shows us how he sets up a fly rod with a simple hook, yarn and one split shot. My question is how does the yarn get attached to the hook? I know the egg knot but from what I have found it does not stay tight. Am I missing something about how the yarn gets attached to the hook? Please help.

Thanks.

it doesn't stay tight....you just pinch the yarn around the egg loop. I've found that adding some scent oil helps keep it in place.

When you first apply the yarn it doesn't seem like it will stay on.. but when you put it in the water, the shape it takes makes it stick. Its kind of weird but it does work :D

Teddy, sinch the egg loop up to the eye of the hook once you get the yarn in, or it will fall out, even when wet.

If your using eggs, you can pull the loop back out by the yarn

When tying your egg loop make fewer wraps in the beggining which will make the bight of the loop greater. This is not ideal when fishing with eggs because the line tends to cut through the cluster, but then again you probably won't be fly fishing with roe.

Another way of doing it is to take three colors of yarn and tie together using the type of material used for tying up eggs nets. Kind of a rubbery line and tie like an egg flie. then trim to desired size. You can mass produce these in no time. I tend to leave them big and trim down as needed.

If you tie a snell knot and put your yarn in the loop, when you cinch the knot the yarn flares out like a globug. It's the same knot as a bobber stopper and I use it to atatch my butt section to my fly line.
