Baily Range Traverse

I was introduced to this trip via my uncle who is an avid backpacker and climber. It is something I have been wanting to do for a while now, and I have just recently collected the majority of the gear needed. There are many different acess points you can take; the Sol Duc, Hoh, and the Elwha all provide acess to the best views there are in the Olympic National park. A few months ago I had mapped out the trip, and included the miles I would travel in the five days it takes but I have missplaced it right now. The trip is anywhere from 50 to seventy miles depending on the route you choose and landmarks you visit. I am hopping to do it in 2009, and am anticipating the numerous alpine lakes and vistas all around you. Here is an artcle giving a bit of back ground on the traerse and the trip. But if it were me I would acess it via the Hoh valley saving the Elwha Valley last, and though it is harder I would much rather view the Elwha last as it is the most picturesqu and pristine valley in the park. Not to mention the incredible trout oppourtunities. If you are interested in backpaking and crosscountry travel, you should consider taking the trip.
