    I was told that smelt dipping is not going to be available next year on the columbia and all tributarys

    The constant decline of our fisheries. Sigh.

    I looked for anything related to that and cannot see anything official.
    Float from the bank and drift from the boat.

    we need to let them recover, we've destroyed their population far too much.

    Agreed! Those little guys should have at least 10 or 15 years to themselves.
    If you need smelt for food, or bait, get the ones from the Kenai.
