Thread: New Guy Intro

    Default New Guy Intro

Hello, I was refered to this site by a good friends and fishing buddy. I have been in the rod building business for about 5 years and have been building rods for over 10 years.

I mainly fish for salmon and steelhead. Once in a while I will chase sturgeon. I have been fishing since I was a little guy. I own a 17X60 Willie Drifter. I am about 5 minutes from the Sandy river, so I really have no excuse not to be on the river.

I am a sponsor on ifish and have been a member for years, however I am looking for a change.

I am looking forward to learning some things on here and hopefully passing on what I know.

Nice to have you over here David! I heard great things about your rods it will be nice to have your expertise on the board. FYI I'm going to move this thread over to the "Meet and Greet" forum.

Sorry about where I posted. I guess I should have looked first. Yeah the word I got was much more experience over here which I like. Ifish has it's place. Most of the time I post in the rod section for obvious reasons.

If you all have any rod questions feel free to ask. I am sure there some other builders on here to which is great!

No worries, that's what mods are for, keeping things organized and clean.

One question, XMG or XST? HAHA.

For the real question, what's your opinion on split handles and grips?
EDIT: This would be for a light weight (as light as possible) spinning float rod in the 10'6" - 11'6" range.

Hi David and welcome to the site!

As a custom rob builder, do you happen to have a website where people can go and check out your product? As being new to this type of fishing, I'm always looking to expand the gear box..

First answer, XST. I have done alot of research on this as a rod builder and you just cant beat them. Rainshadow is straight forward with there blanks and components, which by the way, are awesome. The newer ALPS guide are light weight and strong with resessed rings to help protect them. They will not pop out on you. Don't get me wrong. Lamiglas makes an awesome product. I have just heard of to many breaking from experienced fisherman who know how to treat a high modules graphite rod.

As far as plit grips, You are not taking off much weight by doing a split grip. IMO it is not even worth doing unless you want it. Nice thing about going custom is you can get that kind of stuff where you cannot in a factory rod.

I hope I answered your questions. Let m eknow if you have anymore!
