    Cool Attacking Chinook 2

I had to tell this story after reading this one about the attacking Chinook.
Now I must say it is hard to believe, but it is totally true.
So this takes place on the Trask river in 1988. My buddy Don and I were driving around looking for some fish in low water conditions on the Trask, when we came across a small group of about 5 Kings stuck in a low water hole outside the mainstream. We had to climb down a nasty little rocky hill to get them. As soon as we got down next to the hole, the 4 smaller Kings immediately left the hole by driving down and over a 6 inch deep gravel bar and back to the mainstream, but one was way to large to escape. This is when is gets good. So with Steelhead rods in hand, we go to work on getting this big boy to attack. Well we did, and quickly broke both rods.

Now it's the next day, and we are armed and ready to go. Same damn thing again, two broken rods. This king was a freaking monster of a fish.

So now we are here at day 3, and we have a sturgeon rod on hand today. It took an hour to get this big boy to hit a Steely. "Been along time since I said Steely" Now the fight was on, and we were going to win. We had only a small landing area of about 2 feet wide and 10 feet long, but it was 2 feet above the water to the landing. We thought we had him tired out, so I reached down and with both hands I was able to grab the tail, together with him on the rod and me with the tail we were able to swing this fish up and lay him out on the landing. At this point I laid down on the mid to back section and Don took the head. As Don began to beat this fish in the head in attempt to subdue him, I was suddenly thrown off the fish and into the water with one big flip of this monsters tail. As I came up from the water, I witnessed the attack of a Chinook on my buddy. This fish had thrown me off and as I came up I saw this fish turn his head up towards Don's face, opened his mouth and grabbed Don by the entire face. Well you know how Salmon have those nasty teeth in the front on top and bottom, well this fish grabbed Don and tore right through his face all the way from the eyebrows to the chin. As Don lay screaming in pain and blood pouring down his face on the landing, I crawled up to try and get a hold of the fish again, when suddenly it flipped off the landing and hydroplaned out of the hole and back into the mainstream never to be seen by us again.

This was my battle ship with fins and will live in my memory for ever. I have never seen another King this big, even in Alaska.
This story is 100% true and if want more I have tons of these unbelievable stories.

Nothing like what happened to you but years ago I was bit by a 15lb chinook. I was reaching down to subdue it, intending to subdue it by holding its' head down when it up and bit my finger.
