Default Steelhead Flies - Stinger Hook tutorial

    Stinger Hook Fly

Place a Partridge Waddington shank in the vice, attach the thread and wrap a base.

Thread a loop of fire wire through the eye of an octopus hook and around the shank.

Wrap the fire wire on the shank securely with with thread, tie it off and cement it with zap a gap.

Tie on hour glass eyes on the bottom of the shank. This is optional. However, it adds weight and couterbalances the shank so that the hook will ride up.

Now tie your fly. I will keep it simple. Dub a body of ice pink dubbing, rib with pearl braid and pick it out.

Tie in a pink marabou plume, make a couple turns and tie it down. whip finish a head and cement the thread.

    Pink Worm fly?

Bit-ter!! Thats what Im talkin about. That is a serious fish catching machine. You could drift fish one of those no problem, and catch plenty of feesh!

Very Pink Wormy indeed! Those few wisps of marabou prolly lay pretty tight to the body, when in the water. But still give it an undulating, fluttery motion, to an overall, very compcat profile. I love it! And Im sure the fish do too!

Not to hijack here, but on the subject of Worm flies...Here's my version of the large profile, invade your space, "only 20# nates will eat" sorta Pink Worm imitation... This is what I resort to because we consider rubbers a bait! Hahahaha! Oh, theres a couple classic leeeches for size comparasion... Big doesnt begin to explain it! HA!

Damn those marabou flies are the real deal! What kind of marabou do you use? I'm usually cheap and buy the blood quills but might by the extra select stuff to get a bigger profile. I might have to swing those on my OP trip this winter.

Thanks dude! Sometimes I buy the "Extra Select" variety from an EBay seller, but mostly, I look for the Spirit River, or SilverCloud brands, and sift thru the bags until I find one with nice, full, uniform tips. Ill get a how-to for this one up in the next couple days if your interested in spending a solid half hour palmering marabou! But one of these days we need to throw feathers around, and I'll load yer box with those things! Weighted, and un weighted. I also am going to tie them on tubes, with a stinger for ease of fishabiltiy.

The fly Dillon posted up top. Those OP fish, especially the Bogachiel drainage fish.. they like those smaller profile, long, "whispy" pink bugs. I once saw a guy fishing a red shoelace lookin thing, that he threaded a mooching leader into! Caught fish when jigs wouldnt get a rise.

They all look good and the pink worm is my go to fish catcher so anything that approximates that gives me confidence.

The fly that Jay originally posted is a perfect compliment to your drift fishing arsenal. The fish would take that the same way they take Rusty's plastics.

If you wanted to drift fish the marabou things, it prolly best to not pack the feathers on so tight... Give it a little more fluid motion, and less overall bulk!
