Thread: Thinking about moving up...

  1. Default

Ed could he guide under another license, for a lodge per-say?

Like could he go to the Sportsmans show, and ask around?

How would that work? I have been offered lodge jobs by several, but its a venture for a single man.......

Thanks for your help on this..

  2. Default Depends

As things stand right now, he would need to get first a sport fishing license, first aid and cpr, and be added to the lodge's insurance policy, and then he could get a guide license ($50 instead of the $100 for the guide/owner license).

However, we are presently undergoing revision in the guide program where all of that is up in the air. The proposed regulation at this point is that a new guide could work for a lodge, for example, with an assistant guide license, and would need to do so for a period of time before a full guide license would be given. But, until we get through all of the public process, heaven only knows what the final product will be.

Bottom line, he would need a Sport license, 1st aid and cpr, insurance and a guide licnese before he could do any work in Alaska at this point.

  4. Default Insurance

State of Alaska, and other stakeholders (i.e. Alaska Parks, Chugach National Forest, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, etc.) require at least $300,000 liability insurance (standard guide policy) with each stakeholder listed as additional insured. The typical policy will cost somewhere around $1000 per year (variable based on your experience, length of season, type of activities provided, and insurance provider).

I have a connection for insurance in Alaska if you would like to get a quote... send me a pm and I'll send you the contact.

Enjoy... While some version of this will certainly pass, don't take all of what you read to heart quite yet...
