Big Creek fishing closure will continue through October

    Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016

CLACKAMAS, Ore. – The annual September recreational fishing closure on Big Creek will be extended through the month of October, under temporary rules adopted today by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The closure applies to all species and is effective from the fishing deadline at Big Creek Hatchery downstream approximately three miles to the railroad trestle at the mouth, and includes angling from the trestle.

The angling closure was extended one additional month to give Big Creek Hatchery additional time to collect tule Chinook and coho salmon brood stock, both of which are tracking below the hatchery’s brood stock needs.

    Man that's a bummer.

    Fact sheet for this release:
    http://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/OSCR...6_09_29ff9.pdf

"Coho returns to date are low which is normal for the date, but the egg take goal at Big Creek has increased to 6.0 million which requires approximately 2,700 females (nearly double the 2015 actual return)."
