The “Hospitality State” certainly lives up to its nickname, with a warm welcome for visiting and local anglers alike. But before you cast a line in these welcoming waters, you’ll need a Mississippi fishing license.
This video covers everything you need to know about getting a fishing license in Mississippi, including the different types of permits on offer, and where you can get yours.
First thing’s first, everyone over the age of 16 needs a license to cast a line in Mississippi, but senior citizens are able to get a free license.
You’ll need a different license depending on whether you’re fishing freshwater and saltwater, and there are different options depending on whether you’re an MS resident or not.
Residents can choose from year-long licenses for saltwater or freshwater fishing, or 3-day licenses for freshwater fishing only. There are also Super Sportsman or Avid Angler packages that last a year or lifetime licenses that will allow you to fish all over the state.
Non-residents can take advantage of 3-day or year-long licenses for both freshwater and saltwater fishing, with 1-day freshwater permits on offer, too.
Members of the Armed Forces can get a combo 14-day hunt and fish license, allowing you to hit rivers, lakes, and the Gulf over a two-week period.
Head over to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks to get your license or visit one of their numerous vendors, such as Walmart and select hardware stores. As soon as you’ve got your permit, it’s all about planning that perfect fishing getaway. Mississippi won’t disappoint!
