Tampa Bay Fishing For Redfish & Snook [Lure Testing Trip]
I had a fun lure testing trip our on Tampa Bay fishing for redfish and snook, and thoughts I’d make this Fishing Report video showing the action.
My 1 year old yellow lab named Otis joined me for the trip, and he certainly proved to add an entirely new level of difficulty in landing fish given how crazy he goes as soon as he hears the drag going out.
For this trip, I only took the following 2 lures:
1. Rapalla X-Rap Twitching Minnow (suspending twitch bait)
2. Exude soft plastic (5″ Black with gold specks)
The wind was coming from the East at 15+ MPH, so I had to hug the Eastern shoreline to find clean water.
To see exactly where I was fishing and what the feeding zone trends were on this trip and all others that we do, be sure to join our Insider club because we share our top spots with that group so they can see the exact type of spots to target to make the most of our their time out on the water in good areas.
Here’s a link to apply:
Note: If you are just getting started with inshore fishing, then I highly recommend joining our Inshore Slammer course because it has everything you need to know in order to catch redfish, snook, trout, and flounder in your saltwater inshore waterways.

Good video, looks like you had your hands full with your dog and trying to land those fish. Is that the Black Widow series of Edge rods and is it the M or the MH rod? I have been wanting to get one of those for inshore fishing fora few months now.
Thanks for the video! I am always looking for new lures to use when chasing reds. What type / weight hook set up did you use?
Tell Otis Otis Hi LOL
is he a hunting dog lol?
any luck with the x-rap? thanks
Cool vids i just subbed
Is that upper tampa bay? If it is I love wading there for fishing
take Otis out where some hammerhead's are!lol
Check out the Ruff Wear Web Master harness. Turns your dog into a suitcase with a handle on their back. Great for getting your dog up and down stuff they can't do themselves. Love the vids!
Hey I live in Tampa myself and was wondering if you wanted to go fishing with me?
That was a good video Luke. And ol' Otis likes to fish to it seems. Saw those Exudes at sports authority.
Otis cracks me up. Hope to see him continuosly in your fishing outings. Thx for sharing.
Otis had more fun than you did! I could see it in his face, he had a blast – not too sure you did pulling him back in he is a big guy!
LOL – keep up the great work or fun as it looks…
The dog is pretty good help lol I use to have a black lab that done the same thing
Just a thought, maybe get a harness for him for boat rides.
Two things:
1)My girlfriends brother and wife have a 2 y/o yellow lab and the craziness still hasn't worn off! You should look into a harness/life vest for him just so that you can pull on a handle on his back to get him back in the boat.
2) I'm trying to learn how to fish more of the inter-coastal parts in Tampa. With a huge spectrum of soft and hard bait colors and patterns, how to pick which ones to buy/try out?
Otis is so funny. Please be careful not to get a treble (or any hook) hook in his nose, eye, ear, etc. in him.
my black lab dose the same thing.
Otis ain't falling in, he's trying to help retrieve the fish.
Hey Luke,
An easy way to get Otis back on the boat, after he goes fishing, when Otis gets his front paws on the boat press down on his head — the leverage will raise his hind side and he will be able to scoot back into the boat-
try it on the paddle board, canoe kayak-paws on deck press down then a little forward–Nice. Looks like Otis needs a divers ramp that floats on the water end so he can get back in the boat. I've fished with the Exudes in the speckled watermelon sort of color. I liked how they were a bit harder than the Gulp Jerk Shad but didn't tend to float like the Zoom. IIR they were dry scented, but unlike Gulp Alives they didn't seem to attract the craziness of being constantly terrorized by pinfish and puffers. To escape the foul winds this week I fished in a wind protected freshwater lake with Zoom Super Fluke perl white and after only two catches the Zoom was shredded. It's nice to have a Jerk Shad option that lasts more than ten or so casts. Thanks for the reviews. Very helpful.
Well I don't know about you, but I think Otis had a whale of a time.
that's It! I'm selling the wife and getting a flats boat.
I get the same way when I hear the drag.LOL
