TEXAS GAME WARDEN – GILL NETTER BUSTED! LAKE HOUSTON!
This guy set up less than 50 yards from me where I was Crappie fishing. He was throwing an oversized (illegal) cast net less than 20 yards from where I was fishing. THEN I was literally shocked to watch him stretch out and swim an illegal GILL NET, over 100 yards long across the bayou.
– I watch in disbelief, as he literally “threw back” hundreds and hundreds of pounds of dead fish, possibly in the thousands of pounds!
– What he decided to keep, he and some other person would hide in the woods, and had others coming back and forth and loading them up and taking them away in coolers…
– Crappie, Bass, Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish, Tilapia, Gar, Carp, BIG Bull Shad, Bowfin, Bluegill…EVERYTHING that swims. Some of the BIGGEST fish I have seen of almost every species.
– The amount of DEAD FISH was astounding, and sickening to see floating just about everywhere!
– I packed up my stuff and left; Called the Texas Parks and Wildlife hotline to report poachers. I also called a good friend of mine, who is a licensed and certified FAA drone pilot, explaining what was going on. He very graciously provided me with the following footage he was able to capture. To this person, I say, Thank You very much!
– It took awhile for a Game Warden to arrive on site, but they did end up catching the guy.
– It only takes one person doing this to negatively affect a fishery for YEARS, and YEARS to come…

I'm retired TP&W and have seen it all. These people come into the hood around the Deussen Park areas and feel it's not protected under law.

Although snitching goes against my nature, I've got Operation Game Thief in my contacts and will drop a dime on any abuse of fish or game over-harvest violations.
This is right down the street from me (I'm on Knoll Manor) and it makes me so angry to see. It's not just about following rules… Yeah, there are plenty of ways to catch a whole lot of fish, but what people fail to realize is how this can decimate an ecosystem. I mean, you've potentially got the mid section of a food chain in that net. I'm glad he was caught when he was and hopefully he gets hammered with a hell of a fine and at least thinks twice about doing it again. Thank you guys for helping catch them.
