My understanding of fishing lines and rods has increased exponentially watching your videos, thanks!
There have been many positive advancements in fishing rod's, reels and lures over the past 40 some years , but one that has made it so confusing for most people has been floral carbon line. There were many things said about it initially that were simply not true. I will only use it on a big cast real Or as a leader on my braided line when using a spinning real. Anything heavier than the diameter of a good 8 pound test line is going to create problems on a spinning real unless you have one with a big spool. I still will go back to a good mono line Many times to avoid all the problems with floral carbon . Funny how we could catch fish prior to floral Carbon. A lot of the changes to rod's, karma and knots have had to come about because of the problems floral presents. Not worth it for the new angler.
I use braid to mono with no issues that I can tell. Catch plenty of big fish and save money. I only use flouro for finesse in clear water.
I broke off my fluoro leader one time and tied my lure straight to the braid. The fish don't care. They bite the same. I don't mess with a leader anymore.
and big holes in fishes mouth also reduces their ability to effectively feed and can end up killing them. a marine biologist in my neck of the woods has studied the impact of catch and release on suck feeders (like bass) and they can't create the same suction to inhale after large hooks injure their mouths.
Had some troubles this labor day weekend with the floro breaking at the double uni knot, the knot is still there but the braid may have cut into it. Heave weighted drop shot probably added to much stress I would guess.
Only time I even consider a leader is a steel one for catfish, which is very rare indeed. Otherwise, depending on the rod and reel, I use straight 65lb braid, twelve to 15 or more fl, or plain mono at anywhere from 2lbs to 12-17lbs. I do still manage to catch a fish on occasion without over complicating things. Use a rod and reel, a cane pole, some line of some kind with a hook tied to it. Anything past that is starting to lead to it not being much fun anymore.
Hey another great connection knot to tie is the blood knot. Tactical bassin has a video on it.
I use the Alberto for a braid to fluoro/mono knot. Fast, easy, and strong. Thanks for the great vid!
8-10 lb suffix 832 for me with an 8 lb stren fleuro leader. Works great with an Alberto knot 🪢
We CAN'T use it because all our dam rod guides are too dam small!! Most new decent casting rods now come with sub 4mm and worse sub 3mm sized rod guides – totally jacked!
Braid to fluorocarbon is stupid. Same people back their reel with mono line. Then when you ask them what fishing line they use it's all three with two knots. Mono backing to braid with a double uni knot and then braid to fluro with a FG knot.
Personally I have mastered the best FG knots, but if you're fishing with a leader and passing the knots through your rods eyes you're a dumbass. Use one straight line for the application needed and stop making it complicated. I am about to switch to 100% all Fluorocarbon for these stupid reasons.
My man got that Wallace and Gromit mouth/teeth lmao
The next big innovation in line will be the elimination of knots between braid and fluorocarbon and use of a bonding agent and/or a small micro sleeve each line end can feed into and be sealed with heat or epoxy to bond the two lines together. People hate tying knots and a good engineer will put an end to the cumbersome knots. I am working on some innovations now to solve this problem.
Bro Randy Blanket is a sourpuss. Budget guys know the deal.
My best friend who got me into fishing beat the FG knot senseless into me. He's braid to fluorocarbon on every spinning and casting rod he owns. But I'm lazy and go straight fluorocarbon LOL. It's just easier. After 1 year of braid on a spinning rod that I caught multiple Chinook salmon on it had a lot of line twist even on the braid. I do my best not to reel when drag is engaged. But it definitely twists whenever drag is going out. Fishing light braid to light main line on a spinning rod for big salmon gives you a line twist sooner than later no matter what. I appreciate the greater sensitivity. Hearing braid go through the guides of a rod is one of the best sounds on Earth. Even though it's better, I'm just lazy LOL
I’m a big fan of the copoly lines . Gives a little stretch but is more abrasion resistant. And in my humble opinion casts way better than straight flouro. I do run braid on the spinning reels but typically just go straight braid ( murky weedy water ) so I’m not worried about the fish seeing my line. Smallies down the Cape is a different story lol flouro leader all the way !!
I used to use braid to fleuro.. and I go through WAY too much fleuro to make it worth my time ultimately as I was constantly adding line to my braid and it gets tiresome.. I like full spools of fleuro..
geeez so much talking. get to the f-fing point!
Too many knots, equals lost fish..IT'S STUPID TO ME.
Just left braid and flourocarbon for all mono. Lost fish with mono…so far…zero. I'm tired of losing fish to flour and tired of line mishaps with braid. And hey… saving money too.
How many feet of the fluoro carbon do you use? Not sure if i missed that in the video or not.
Why don't more people use a swivel between the braid-flouro connection? Don't have to deal with annoying braid-flouro knots and it would eliminate line twist
How long of a leader do you prefer?
I never really understand why everyone says finesse setups require a spinner when I use my baitcasters for finesse setups (zoom trick worms mostly) all the time. I’m just now seeing everyone uses spinners for finesse set ups.
have had a few really nasty backlashes with experimenting with straight fluoro mainline recently; but I think it was mainly due to bad cast technique, and/or using a eighth ounce jighead on a medium heavy set up where 3/8 is the recommended minimum. It is possible with the 1/8 but you just really gotta watch the wind direction and tweak the reel gear nobs real carefully to minimize the risk. Lol. but I still gummed it up a couple times really bad anyways, and lost a lot of line.
I am just “coming back to fishing” lol. Had been straight mono my whole life. No leader. Come to find out, my dad started using leaders somewhere along the way. So I started doing that. Recently started using all fluoro mainline. Like it but have definitely noticed more line twist issues than what I had with mono. Not opposed to braid, but have not decided to try it yet. Have used braid with guides’ rods and one time got a real bad knot somehow, who knows how, when I tossed it and I think the hook got gummed up in the line on the cast. But do see why the guides use straight braid with popping corks and leader on their customer-use rods.
Why does youtube keep recommending this channel!? All these topics and information I have already heard from a thousand other channels. This guy provides absolutely nothing new!
I use both, depends on how the fish are biting.
I use braid-to-fluoro almost all the time. It tangles waaayyyyy less when the line gets tip-wrapped, or if literally anything happens. It prevents braid from snapping, gives me a more elastic fighting profile, and it can withstand the teeth of snakehead very well. I typically run a 30lb mainline to a 40lb fluoro leader and a 40lb mainline to a 60lb fluoro for giant snakehead fishing in the tropical jungle where i'm from
I use braid to monofilament top shot to flourocarbon. The top shot is approximately 2x rod length. The rig itself is FC. I do mostly bottom fishing in saltwater, with conventional reels. The monofilament adds elasticity.
How long are you making the fluro leaders on these braid to Fluor leader setups?
I use two rods. One is a light power spinning rod and the other is a medium power spinning rod. I was told to use light line something around 6lb flouro (which I am currently using) I'm confused on what pound line to actually use. I always hear different answers. I usually use a wacky rig on the light power rod and I'll use anything else on my medium power rod such as jerk baits, spinner baits, top water, etc. So what pound line should I use?
Also, I hear that flouro and mess with the action on top waters since the line sinks. I was thinking about using a leader for my top water. What kind of line and pound should I use and how long should the leader be?
What kind of reels do you use? Make and model? I like Shimano reels myself but I am new to the sport /hobby.. I am transitioning my current rods from cheap free rods to buy higher quality…
What’s the difference between your FG knot hitting pylons under docks and hitting every eyelit on ur fishing pole on every cast.
First and foremost, I love your videos. I’ve been watching you for years. I didn’t read through the comments and I’m sure someone has already said something to you, but just in case.
The line twists on spinning gear does not occur from the drag. It occurs when the person reels and the fish is already pulling drag. Thank God for all the” and the sun is just starting come out over the tree tops” moments I’ve spent in my life. Love you brother, your truly a great teacher.
I mainly use spinning gear for skipping Senkos and Neds, etc. I use 15# Power Pro slick8 braid to 8-12# mono. I came up with my own combo of knots that I can attach the two in about a minute. It sounds and looks goofy but slides through micro guides and honestly very rarely breaks. If I am snagged and pull hard and straight the line will break at the hook and not the two line connection. Now I think a contributing factor may be because I use mono (four foot leader) which is more forgiving than IMO brittle flouro.
I tie an improved clinch knot loosely around my finger five or so wraps. That creates a loop. Take the braid and tie a palomar knot to that loop. Tighten down palomar. Wet mono and tighten down improved clinch. Trim and ready to fish. As said, not the smoothest knot but does not hinder a cast.
straight fluro all the way
That reminds me when can we expect to see a Bruin Reel review vid?
Love this video, I personally won my first tournament not too long ago and very proud! Anyways bro another banger of a video remember the grind never stop💪
