I completely disagree with not using bleach. I just sold a 22 year old pontoon boat with an upholstery that looked and felt like new and I always cleaned the seats with bleach usually 2-3 times per year. I always had a cover on the boat and it was in the water all summer tied to my dock.
I use Dawn on my floors/ sea deck etc. I trust dawn more than anything else on the market.
303 is what I use AFTER I clean the seats, I DO NOT use Vinegar, its a type of mild to medium acid and should only be used for the dirtiest job, I use warm water and Dawn dish soap, it takes all the dirt and oils that can stain, I have detailing brushes made of soft bristles that can get in the cracks, by massaging out the dirt, then I use warm water with a wet towel to rinse off and then dry with a dry towel, AFTER drying I use 303, Its a great product, I also soak my rubber driver belts (Alternator, and power steering) before I put them on, I haven't lost a belt yet I believe now 15 years. 🙂
What can I use on my pontoon vinyl seeds to get yellow bird crap or bug crap stain removed? I’ve always used a 303 formula it’s been great kept my seats from fading but I have used all sorts of things on this yellow bug crap or bird poop stain and it’s not doing anything any recommendations?
Vinegar is an acid plus why would you want your upholstery to smell like salad dressing.
Note to self. Don’t eat lunch and then try to talk on a video. Burping in your mouth while talking doesn’t look good bud.
Toothbrush won’t get out bird or bug stains
What kind of vinegar? Wine? Apple cider? Alcohol?
So when I wash my clothes in some bleach the threads don't fall apart….
Every mildew stain remover I've ever seen is simply bleach water. Vinegar is acid. 90% of boats become so dirty they require scrubbing with a nylon brush and cleaners. The stitching used for vinyl in boats since the 90s is bonded polyester, offering excellent chemical, heat and UV-resistance. If you clean your boat every time you use it, mild soapy water like dawn and a good protectant, almost nobody cleans their boat weekly/monthly even much less every use.
How much vinegar/water to use in 32oz spray bottle
Everyone talks about marine 31 but doesn't it have bleach in it .. it is safe on pontoon vynal
Stain?? No problem: just hit it with the pressure washer.
Hmmm; maybe not. Couple years ago one of my neighbors tried that trick on his new speed boat. He got a tad too close to the seat with the nozzle and tore up the vinyl. Pretty expensive "oops"!
What about the Meguiar's Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner & Protectant? And all the other Meguiar’s marine products? Are they the best to use?
Been watching your videos for about a year now. They get better and better. Thank you for all the great information. Bought a Harris pontoon this year and your videos really helped me. Keep up the great work!
I've always used Murphy Oil Soap on my car Leather and Boat vinyl.
I made the mistake on a section of my vinyl rear bench. Used comet with bleach. Made it white but dried it out and it’s hard and ruined now. Should have stuck to starbrite mildew remover for stains and 303 protectant. I am a big believer in vinegar so I’ll try that going forward
As a chemical sales guy, ya nailed it. Use a cleaner with hydrogen peroxide, it has a neutral PH. The peroxide is actually color safe bleach, like in color safe Tide. Vinager is an acid but cut with water, it may get to a natural PH. Ya nailed it magic eraser and alcohol. Magic E is actually called melanine and will wear down the upholstery. Stay away! Neutral PH is the way to go please.
When I binge watched your channel last year before buying my Harris Solstice 230 one of your accessories videos espoused Boat Juice in both interior and exterior versions. I’ve been using that ever since , hope I’m not messing up my seats! 😲
Vinegar is acetic acid…around 3%
Diluted Simple Green is my go to all purpose cleaner. 5% – 10% is plenty.
That's what I want….a boat that smells like vinegar…lol…I'm pleased with Babe's seat soap and protectant. However, I've never checked the ingredients and will do so immediately.
I use a product called Seat Soap. Supposedly made for a vinyl boat seats. I got to say that I’ve never read the ingredients. Has a UV protectant. I think they’ve been in business for decades. But I’ll definitely read the bottle.
I only use microfiber towels. A bit of advice, if you wipe down your seats just about every time after you spend the day on a boat, you don’t need any hard scrubbing, or toothbrushes. Because it’s always clean! And It only takes about five minutes, because it’s always clean!
Yes, you have got to be careful what you use. I can’t remember what the product was but about 8 or 10 years ago my buddy was using something on his seats for a few years (approximately 3 years) which literally destroyed them. Had to have all the seats redone. Do your research people!
