Tippet for Large Fish and Saltwater // SA Absolute Shock Tippet
Tippet for large flies and large fish is stiffer, turns over better, and is generally tougher and more abrasion resistant. It lacks suppleness but that typically isn’t an issue in situations requiring the use of heavy line. We use this for Tarpon, Snook, Steelhead, Salmon, Roosterfish, Dorado, and all of our high stakes big game species.

So do you use a double uni when tying class tippet to heavy shock? Or an improved blood knot? Thanks! I also solely use the Steve huff loop knot regardless of tippet. I find it more consistent with being small and pulling straight. Should I avoid this knot for some reason with tippet under 30 lbs? Has worked great for me since implementing it for all species
Curious, have you ever played with your fly tied to that nonslip loop knot and seen how it actually behaves? I have and I wasn't impressed. Fill up a laundry tub and take that lead head crab fly tie it on and play with it. Purposefully try to plop it in upside-down, see how/if it turns hook up. See how it lands and how the line is oriented after the fall. Give it a slow pull or a quick twitch. Let me know your thoughts.
I don't trust it. I find that loop for some reason wants to turn the fly on its side. It seems to act as a hinge. Not every time, but some of the time. Inconsistent enough for me to not like it.
Where a simple uni knot to the fly works perfectly. Fly flips over almost instantly, falls straight, no "coin" action, and lands in a defensive crab posture. Then if twitched pulls perfectly straight.
