Thanks! Good stuff maybe this is my reason to where I haven’t been able to catch trout. I knew, but I didn’t think it could really affect as much, but I believe it does now.
What if I have a 20 lb test moni and I don’t want to go through the hassle of waisting line and rewinding. Would it be okay if I just added 20 ft of flrcbrn? And still be as successful if I had a flrcbrn line, just not all the way of course. It would be my leader line
I have med heavy ugly stick n baitcaster would a 14lb fluro be to big for trout . The lake has trout , big striper n cat fish water is not crystal clear should I down size line

Did you find that you got more bites with the 4lb than the 6lb? I heard to say you catch more fish, now that you are on 6lb, just wondering about bite ratio.

6lb for trout is overkill unless you're fishing in rapids. 2lb is just fine, you just have to learn how to set your drag
I use 2lb test for trout fishing fluorocarbon no other way.
Have you ever tried izorline? And what lb test should I use, the lakes I fish in have a lot of rocks.

If I'm primarily fishing for trout in rivers and lakes, should I simply be lining my reel with 6-8 lbs test for mainline with fluorocarbon? And then tippet or leader of 2-4 lbs with uni knot Tie?
Would having a braided main line with fluorocarbon leader be a viable option or will trout see the braid ?

For those asking about braid, because it has zero stretch, you would want a very slow action ultra light rod to help protect the fish from damage unless you plan to keep all your catches. The shock of a hookset with braid can damage a trout fatally. Ive seen it/done it. Not to say there isnt a place for it. It does float well and 5 or 8Ib braid is very thin.
Ive been using kast king flourokote lately which is a copolymer coated with fluorocarbon. Its a nice workable line and I haven't had any trouble with tangle or twist on a 1000 size reel and ul rod.
Had some days I got ripped off on 6Ib and wished I had 8 lol. Then again the feeling when tou land a beauty on 2Ib is like no other.
I go +2 on the FC , Its invisible so if anything it can help more than hurt! Mainline for trout is 6LBS and a 8LBS 3foot leader for stream fishing trout. Berkley has a green FC that i love
