From ice fishing freshwater lakes to battling monsters in the mighty Atlantic Ocean, the Garden State offers a huge range of action. But before you start, you’re going to need a New Jersey fishing license.
This video covers everything you need to know about getting a fishing license in New Jersey, including the different types of permits on offer, and where you can get yours.
When it comes to freshwater fishing, everyone between the ages of 16 and 70 needs to have a valid permit. As for saltwater? There aren’t any license requirements, but anglers must register with the New Jersey Saltwater Recreational Registry Program.
Residents of New Jersey can buy licenses that last up until the 31st of December, with discounts for residents over the age of 64. Anglers over 70 must carry proof of age with them at all times.
Non-residents can choose from 2-day or 7-day licenses, along with permits that are good through the end of the year – but visitors can expect to pay more than a New Jerseyite would.
In addition to freshwater licenses, anglers also need a license to go shellfishing. These are cheap for both residents and non-residents, with resident seniors and kids able to take advantage of price discounts.
Head to the New Jersey Department for Fish and Wildlife website to purchase a license online, or head to one of the numerous vendors dotted around the state to get one in person. You can also get your license and any information you may need over the phone or via email with the DFW.
Once you’ve got your license, you’re good to go fishing in the Garden State. Why not get a head start and start planning your trip today?
