i find the tippet rings dont hold a knot and or cut the tippet and leader, maybe I am not using a proper knot or technique. back to just tying knots and cutting leaders back.
Fun fact: The inventor of the first ring was Edgar Pitzenbauer, hence Pitzenbauer Ringl. It is used by fly fishermen in the alpine area for a very long time.
Of course many manufacturers copied it around the globe because it makes absolutely sense to use it.
Cheers from the Baltic Sea 🇩🇪
I'm trying the RIO fly clips instead. They are SO tiny it's easier to use a pair of hemostat forceps to hold them when changing flies.
Peter, your videos are exceptionally informative. You continue to amaze me with your knowledge of all things fly fishing and the practical aspects of the various fly fishing elements. I can sit for hours watching your videos because I learn so much. But I can't because then I would never get off my duff and do some fishing. My regret is that this kind of instruction wasn't available when I picked up the fly rod 40 years' ago. I know I would have been a better fly fisher at this stage of my life. Thanks for all you do.
Hi Peter, I think the tippet ring idea is pretty clever. I see some "experts" berating them as being very troublesome, making a hinge and "slapping down" on the water. They are so tiny, I can't see that happening. Like you said, you can use a better knot to add tippet and you have the added benefit of never cutting back into the taper. Glad you did this video!
Just getting into FF so your timing is great. I just purchased a couple of packs yesterday thinking they might be helpful.
