Been in this salvage game for many years. Copart is not looking out for your interest, they are traded on the NYSE and all they care about is profit for shareholders. I used to be able to buy copart cars for 10-20% of book value, fix em, drive em, and sell em.
Nothin wrong with salvage cars if you have a brain and can fix it correctly mechanically/body-wise. Don't ever buy a car if it's not from an insurance company selling it, as it's the quick-flip people you have to watch out for since they doctor them up with zipties, shoddy body work to make it look like i has minimal damage in a picture, when in reality the car is horrible.
These people shield themselves from any liability with selling the car through copart, and frankly don't give a crap about anythng other than making a quick $1500-$15000 on an unsuspecting buyer.
Copart is full of shill bidders, and that is just part of online auctions, somone will shill bid their car to get a profit. Copart will never address this since they have brokers, and buyers under those brokers that anyone anywhere can register and bid on any car in copart.
Fee's have gone through the roof, and just increased in November 2022 by 18%. So do your due diligence, and check out these cars personally. If you don't know anything about cars, just stay away from salvage auctions period, you'll be in over your head very quickly, with the price of used/new parts, airbags, frame components, framework, paint, bodywork, the salvage inspection process.
So be careful, many copart wolves out there in sheeps clothing looking to take you on a ride, then take all of your hard earned cash without even a moments thought.
This is only true when public buyers buy junk. I buy insurance wrecks that are just wonderful, because I've been doing it for 20 years plus. I only buy low mileage. I only buy natural wrecks from insurance companys and I build them on youtube.
Copart tried buying the racetrack in Bechtelsville PA trying to ruin 60years of racing and they lost because the town kept saying the same thing. They’re pieces of crap
I was looking at a dodge challenger and at first it said it had keys and runs and drives.check the next day now both are the opposite wtf.
Dude if you have problems buying cars that you know are wrecked and sold as is please go buy at the dealer.
Pretty risky, but well , I'am looking to buy a Toyota or Lexus SUV, as they come about 7000-10000$ cheaper than the european versions, including transportation to Eastern Europe + taxes. So it's a bargain to buy on IAAI or Copart, even with the problems that may appear.
But you bought all these cars from Copart?
So far I've purchased one car from copart. It was a 07 dodge nitro, I bought it for 875. After fees it was 1411.00, I was able to drive it back 1.5 hours all without seeing it in person. I had seen one pic of it running and said ok I'm buying this.
I have bought a lot of vehicles from copart and never had an issue with what I bought. I knew what I bought.
You betting against them too, i saw that scam too, didn't bid on any other cars.
Don't ever buy cars from private sellers, buy cars only from the insurance companies. And do your homework properly before bidding.
there’s a lot of good insurance cars you just have to watch carefully on what you bid. bidding cars for 18 yrs
Thanks, I really considered copart but not anymore.
one note – the cars are more valued outside the usa so the foreign bidders are willing to pay extra, even though they have to add even $4-6k for shipping and sht. Yep.
Warren Buffet said it best “ sooner or later your company will be run by an IDIOT”. Jay Adair is the epitome of mediocre. In fact an awful terrible CEO. Jay Adair is not only inapt; personality wise he is lower than the scum that accumulate the bottom of a unclean toilet. A serial cheater and wife beater, the guy is pure garbage. Worse he is an intellectual obtuse. Worse at board meeting he says things that would get anyone else immediate firing, yet he is still around. Maybe the board members are equality stupid. Since he came in on board in 2010 the company has been run like “ bowl of chicken guts soup”. Both business relations, customer Service coupled with the company cash flow has been in toilet. WE need new astute blood at copart.
I buy over 1 million + a year through copart… you just have to know who you are buying it from. Check the report before buying and make sure the salvage info matches up with photos and specs listed on the auction and you are 90% getting what you expect.
I bought a few cars off Ebay Motors – there's always something wrong, some much more than others. unless you're buying a brand new vehicle, which I don't. you just have to accept the fact that you're not getting something perfect. you're going to have some problems.
So True
One thing you got wrong: The market did not crash.
bro got scammed once and made a rage video
I'm using Epicvin reports that are available on copart to reduce the risks. Just use vehicle history reports to check your car, I know Epicvin even has some unlimited membership for copart users
Me and my dad were looking at buying some trucks to sell for parts. Like f250 or f350’s good idea or not?
I will post Billy lawton managing director address today so if you guys want to send him a thank note.
Man…you must have got burned by your own bad decision. You are only talking about the worst of the worst kind of cars on Copart. You're also speaking for one group of people, some people buy cars from other countries which you pointed as a negative, so they can get cars in their developing countries . they can repair and fix them for much less . You can go view the car before you invest your money in it. I'm sure they have a stringent set of rules and procedures for photographing the cars at specific angles. All of the photos seem to follow r same formatting, nor is the lighting horrible like your shop is! It has nothing to do with trying to hide anything. As a matter of fact I know of a car they declined and turned down because the seller was trying to pull a fast one on a buyer through an auction. Copart also offers other products and other types of cars that are clean titie cars from local major dealership front lines..most importantly ..I know of many success stories of young people using Copart as a way to start their businesses and several years later are very successful and have ethical good businesses that they run. thank you for Copart for standing behind those young people as they started their businesses. Moral of story..I'd buy there FOR SURE..Just know what your doing, use the tools available to you, VIEW THE CAR BEFORE BIDDING,or have inspected by outside company.
Reinforced with rebar ???. Is there no law against that ?
When this video aired i bought a 2014 scion tc manual transmission for 5k i invested 3 to 4 k fixing it only to sell it later for $5850. The car had many problems other than the front end damage
hey nathan let me know what you think about this, i just got onto Copart recently to buy some vehicles and came across your videos. i have checked vins on a few vehicles and have seen cars previously sold in copart then posted over and over again in copart. i have also seen vehicles that are trashed then posted back at copart looking alot better. i have also seen a vehicle with 230k miles then back on copart with 151k miles. isnt this illegal to do ? i have been scared off of copart now seeing things with my own eyes !
Thank you so much
lol dude predicted the economy
How can i get my membership
I've bought like 50 cars from Copart. I've had good luck with salvage vehicles because the reason they're there is transparent. Clean title vehicles are usually there because there's some bad surprise waiting. The worse thing about Copart is their ridiculous high fees. That and it's so mainstream you're bidding against the whole world, pretty much.
I also sold a car there and it took 3 months to get my Check .. I told them if it was in the other foot I would have 1000s of dollars in late fees added to me they are trash
Yeah copart is a joke non of them want to work .. there’s a buyers side and a sellers side so no employees take any responsibility on helping you it’s always pushed to someone else and they are so rude and then they have this app that you have to sign in on to come inside and most of these guys don’t speak English and need help and the workers are so rude .. I witnessed a manager tell a guy he stunk and needs to shower before he comes back it’s so sad if a place ..
I got a co part car with a rebuilt title have had it for 8 years it just started giving me problems in the last year or so and i went the cheap route for an oil change and i think the mechanic ruined my car still driving not sure how they are now and im in the market for another car. Since it was such a great buy and I had no real major cost owned it outright
2012 ford focuswas looking to go back to them but I don't have a dealer to purchase it for me like the first time Im tempted to go back but not sure … Fee wise with getting the title drivable with the state documents cost i think total i ended up paying roughly 8k for the car and getting it on the road so IDK its gonna be hard to turn down CO-PART after that kind of deal .. Thanks for giving me a lot to considerGuys we all see the runs and drives category- even if the damn thing runs and knocks goes into reverse and not drive they will still count is as runs and drives!
Also the buyer fees have gone insane innthe last 4 years! Especially on cars the sell for less than a 1000 bucks.
Never used to be that way!
My word of advice please take the time and go check them out before bidding!!
Bring a flash light !!!!
Always buy from private partys
